Celebrating World Press Freedom Day

TV Special Explores the Vision Behind Internews

Dear Friend,

As we mark World Press Freedom Day this Sunday, May 3, Internews salutes the courageous journalists around the world who devote their lives to providing their communities with accurate and balanced news in the public interest, from uncovering illegal logging in Thailand to shining a light on the practice of forced marriages in Pakistan.

Internews’ work empowering local media in over 70 countries is featured in "North Coast Visionaries," an inspiring documentary on social entrepreneurs produced by KEET-TV, a PBS station in Eureka, California. The 20-minute segment is based on interviews with Internews President David Hoffman, and myself on Internews’ vision and values, along with images of our work from Afghanistan to Chad. In the program, David and I discuss how Internews’ work creates healthier communities through the free flow of locally produced, editorially independent information.

North Coast Visionaries is airing tonight, Friday, May 1, at 10 pm on KEET-TV, Channel 13. We welcome your feedback.
